Position Summary:

As Construction Foreman (Building Renovations), you will lead renovation projects from start to finish. You will be responsible for supervising a small to medium-sized crew, coordinating trades, ensuring that projects meet quality, safety, budget, and schedule requirements. Your technical expertise in renovation works and hands-on leadership will be critical in delivering successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct day-to-day operations on renovation sites, including supervising subcontractors and labourers.
  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings, plans, and specifications; ensure that renovation works match design intent.
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and assign tasks to crew members and subcontractors; ensure materials, tools, and equipment needed are procured and available.
  • Ensure work is done safely and in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Enforce use of PPE and ensure all team members follow safety protocols.
  • Monitor project progress; report on milestones, bottlenecks, or delays; suggest and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship; ensure finish quality, attention to detail, and client specifications are met.
  • Conduct quality inspections throughout construction; catch and remedy defects early.
  • Coordinate with site managers, project managers, and clients to clarify scope, requirements, and any changes.
  • Keep accurate records: daily logs, progress reports, labor and material usage, time sheets.
  • Manage on-site resources efficiently to stay within budgets and timelines.
  • Assist with issue resolution (e.g. unexpected structural issues, client change requests) in a pragmatic and resourceful manner.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in building renovations, including hands-on work and supervisory experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems, finishes, structural elements, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plaster, tiling, painting, etc.
  • Ability to read and work from drawings and specifications.
  • Good leadership, team-management, and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, flexible and adaptive.
  • Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize tasks and manage multiple workflows.
  • Good understanding of safety procedures on renovation sites and compliance with legislation.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to travel to multiple sites.

Desirable / Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with renovation of commercial properties or fast food building and renovations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimations, and materials procurement.
  • Fluency in Afrikaans or other local languages (for communication on site) is a plus.
  • Experience with client-facing work, understanding client expectations in finish and timeliness.
