About the Role
We seek a highly competent Contracts Manager to lead the execution of a major SANRAL-roadworks project in the Murchison area. You will be responsible for all on-site construction delivery (earthworks, pavement, drainage, structures), contractor performance, quality, HSE compliance, reporting and ensuring that the project is delivered according to contract, programme, cost, and specification.
This role is anchored in a SANRAL environment and requires the ability to work within SANRAL’s technical, contractual and administrative frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the full lifecycle of the construction works on the SANRAL contract, including planning, scheduling, coordination, execution, monitoring and close-out.
- Manage contractor, subcontractor and site teams: setting the production, cost, quality and safety targets; monitoring and driving performance.
- Ensure compliance with SANRAL specifications, standards, contract conditions, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) systems, traffic management and environmental & safety requirements.
- Monitor cost, cash-flow, variation orders and claims, report on budget status, forecasts and cost control.
- Prepare and present monthly progress reports, programme updates and other contract documentation required by SANRAL/Resident Engineer.
- Interface with design/consultant teams, SANRAL representatives, local authorities, stakeholders and the community; attend meetings and represent the site team.
- Proactively identify risks, delays, defects, non-conformances; initiate corrective action and support dispute/claims processes in line with contract requirements.
- Uphold and enforce a strong HSE culture — ensure that all site operations comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, SANRAL standards and contract HSE requirements.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise development, training and local content obligations (where applicable on SANRAL contracts).
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation in construction methods, productivity, quality and safety.
Required Qualifications & Professional Registration
- Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) OR registration with SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Manager (Pr CM) or Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr CPM).
- Proof of active registration and good standing must be submitted with the application.
- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or a related built-environment discipline is preferred.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 8 – 12 years post-qualification experience in heavy civil infrastructure, preferably roads, earthworks, pavement, drainage and structures — ideally in a SANRAL environment.
- Demonstrated experience in managing construction contracts on national or provincial roads, with exposure to SANRAL specification, contract administration, claims/variation management.
- Proven track-record in planning and executing multi-discipline site operations, meeting programme, cost, quality and HSE targets.
- Solid knowledge of contract forms (GCC, NEC, FIDIC or similar) and working under SANRAL procurement and contract framework.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
