Purpose of Role

As Construction Manager (2IC to Owner), you will be the right-hand of the Owner/Director, taking a lead role in the execution of construction projects (both conventional and alternative methods) and supporting the transition into a future Operations Manager role overseeing the full business operations. You will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, safely and to high quality, and you will help drive operational improvements, processes and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Manage delivery of construction projects across the business – planning, execution, monitoring and close-out, including alternative methods and conventional builds.

Act as 2IC to the Owner/Director: support the Owner in strategic decisions, operational oversight, contract reviews, resource planning and business development.

Lead site teams, subcontractors and internal functions (QS, engineers, project managers) to ensure alignment with project objectives and company standards.

Monitor project financial performance: budget vs actual, cost control, forecasting, risk and change management.

Ensure contract administration, variations, claims, capex and operational cost controls are managed effectively.

Drive operational processes, systems and continuous improvement initiatives to support business growth.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality and environmental policies and statutory requirements.

Develop and mentor key staff, build high-performing teams, and prepare for hand-over into the future Operations Manager role.

Assist in business development efforts: take part in tender reviews, client meetings, proposals, and strategic planning.

Maintain close liaison with Owner/Director to provide regular operational reports, project status updates and escalate issues as required.

Requirements

BSc in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering (or equivalent) – mandatory.

Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in construction management (building, industrial or similar) with increasing responsibility in site/contract/operational leadership.

Experience with alternative construction methods and conventional building delivery is an advantage (aligning with what our client is offering).

Strong commercial acumen, cost control capability, contract administration experience and risk management.

Proven leadership, team-management and stakeholder-management skills.

Excellent organisational, planning and execution skills; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

High integrity, proactive mindset and ability to work closely with Owner/Director in a dynamic business environment.

Willingness to travel as required and manage site visits; valid driver’s licence preferred.

What’s on Offer

A pivotal role in a growing construction business where you will be groomed into the Operations Manager role.

Exposure to both conventional and alternative construction methods and a diverse portfolio of projects.

Opportunity to shape operational strategy and business growth.

Competitive remuneration (to be discussed) and realistic progression path.
