Role Overview
This is a highly diverse and multifaceted role. The successful candidate will be responsible for design (draughting), cost estimating, quantity surveying, and site management, focused primarily on aluminium and glazing projects. You will play a key part in both the office and field, ensuring projects are designed efficiently, priced competitively, and executed on site with quality and safety in mind.
Key Responsibilities
Draughting / Design
Produce technical drawings for aluminium windows, doors, shopfronts, and other architectural glazing elements.
Translate architectural layouts and specifications into detailed fabrication-ready drawings.
Work closely with the design and production teams to refine detail and ensure feasibility.
Update drawings and bill of materials based on site feedback and design changes.
Estimating
Prepare cost estimates and quotations for aluminium projects (windows, partitions, shopfitting, etc.).
Analyse project specifications, drawings, and scope to identify material, labour, and subcontractor requirements.
Create and maintain a cost library for aluminium profiles, glazing, sealants, and related components.
Perform value engineering to optimize cost without sacrificing quality or design intent.
Quantity Surveying
Develop Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for tenders and internal cost control.
Monitor project costs, manage cash flow, and report on financial performance.
Prepare cost-planning reports, variation orders, and final account reconciliations.
Manage subcontractor procurement and pricing.
Conduct risk and value management to advise on cost-reducing strategies.
Site Management
Oversee the installation of aluminium systems on site (windows, doors, shopfronts, partitions, glazing).
Coordinate with subcontractors, installers, and site staff to maintain quality and schedule.
Conduct daily site inspections, ensure compliance with safety and quality protocols.
Lead a small site team, mentor installers, and manage subcontractor performance.
Report progress, issues, and costs to project stakeholders and senior management.
Skills & Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Draughting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience in aluminium manufacturing, glazing, shopfitting, or related construction environment.
Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for technical draughting.
Excellent estimating and financial management skills.
Experience preparing BoQs, cost plans, and tender documentation.
Site management experience with good understanding of construction processes.
Good negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and an analytical mindset.
Knowledge of health & safety regulations and quality assurance on site.
