Role Overview

The Weaving Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and provide technical solutions of weaving machinery within the department. 

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance

  • Carry out predictive and preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and costs.
  • Respond promptly to machine breakdowns and restore equipment to service.
  • Uphold safety standards and best practices during all maintenance work.
  • Communicate major technical issues to the Weaving Supervisor without delay.
  • Manage and control spares, tools, and critical parts to ensure availability.
  • Repair damaged or worn parts for reuse where possible to reduce costs.
  • Maintain accurate records for traceability and performance analysis.
  • Ensure weaving standards are met on all looms and twister machinery.
  • Keep work areas organized and safe.

Development

  • Support trials and provide technical input on new product development.
  • Define and optimize machine settings for quality, runnability, and cost balance.
  • Assess equipment modifications or requirements for new developments.
  • Provide feedback on new designs implemented and improve performance.
  • Document all trials and developments for future reference.

Requirements

  • Matric certificate.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Textile industry experience (advantageous).
  • Experience with Galan and Mandel’s weaving machines (advantageous).
